Cudham Church of England Primary School

Physical Education

At Cudham Church of England Primary School, we believe that Physical Education is an essential part of every child's development. Through high-quality teaching, competitive and non-competitive sporting opportunities, and a strong commitment to inclusion, we inspire pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to lead healthy, active lives.

We are proud to have achieved the School Games Gold Mark for four consecutive years, reflecting our commitment to high-quality PE, participation, inclusion and school sport.

As a small school, we are uniquely placed to ensure that every pupil plays a full and active role in the sporting life of the school. We actively encourage all children to represent Cudham in a variety of events throughout their primary years. Whether competing in tournaments, participating in festivals or trying a new activity for the first time, pupils develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship. By the time they leave Year 6, all children will have experienced the pride of representing their school on numerous occasions and being part of a team.

Our pupils benefit from weekly specialist PE teaching delivered by Sportacus, ensuring that every child from Reception to Year 6 receives expert instruction that develops skills, knowledge and enjoyment of physical activity. We follow the Get Set 4 PE scheme, which provides a progressive and ambitious programme of learning, enabling pupils to build on prior knowledge and develop competence across a wide range of physical activities.

Children enjoy a broad range of sporting experiences both within and beyond the curriculum. During 2025-26, pupils participated in activities including football, athletics, bouldering and a range of inter-school competitions and festivals.

At Cudham, we believe that PE is about far more than sport. It promotes physical health and wellbeing, develops perseverance and leadership, and encourages pupils to become confident, resilient and active individuals who are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

Impact

Pupils leave Cudham as confident, resilient and physically active individuals who enjoy participating in sport and understand the importance of healthy lifestyles. Through our inclusive approach, all pupils develop their physical skills, teamwork and sportsmanship, with every child having opportunities to represent the school and experience success. Our achievement of the School Games Gold Mark for four consecutive years reflects the strength of PE and school sport across our school.

Intent

We aim to provide an inclusive, ambitious and enjoyable PE curriculum that enables every child to:

  • Develop physical competence and confidence.
  • Lead healthy, active lifestyles.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, respect and sportsmanship.
  • Participate, compete and achieve success.
  • Develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.

Implementation

PE is taught through the National Curriculum, supported by the Get Set 4 PE scheme and enhanced through weekly specialist teaching from Sportacus. Pupils take part in a wide range of activities, including games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and outdoor adventurous activities. Our small-school setting enables all pupils to participate in sporting festivals, competitions and enrichment opportunities, ensuring every child has the chance to represent the school and develop confidence through sport.
